African football legends Nwankwo Kanu and Kalusha Bwalya have congratulated Enyimba following their progress into the group stage of the CAF Champions League at the expense of Etoile du Sahel on Wednesday in Sousse.
Etoile cancelled the 3-0 first leg deficit, but Enyimba went through after winning 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
Theophilus Afelokhai was the hero for Enyimba, after he saved three of Etoile’s spot kicks.
Former Nigeria captain hailed the Nigerian champions on Twitter, writing moments after the nerve-racking match: “Congratulations Enyimba. Well done, boys.”
Bwalya also sent a message of congratulations to other teams like ASEC Mimosas, Wydad Casablanca, Al Ahly and Zamalek, who also booked their place into the group stage.
“Champions League, Zesco, Zamalek, ES Setif, Wydad Casablanca , ASEC Mimosas, AS Vita Club, Al Ahly, Enyimba . Congrats,” the Zambia legend wrote on his Twitter handle.
Enyimba defeated Etoile also on penalties (5-3 after aggregate ended 3-3) in the final of the 2004 edition of the CAF Champions League.
