CAFCC: Anyansi-Agwu Confident Of Enyimba Win At Rayon Sports

By Adeboye Amosu:

Enyimba chairman, Felix Anyansi- Agwu, is optimistic the team will claim an away win against their hosts, Rayon Sports in Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup, quarter-final, first leg fixture at the Stade Nyamirambo, Kigali, Completesportsnigeria.com reports

The Peoples Elephant are looking to become the first Nigerian club to win the CAF Confederation Cup and are firm favourites to pick the semi-final berth ahead of the Gikunduro.

The players and their officials arrived Kigali on Friday evening and will have a feel of the match venue today.

“I want to appreciate the governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu for his wonderful support. The Government’s amazing support has spurred us so far in the tournament, we are among the best eight teams in the tournament and we finished top of our group,” Anyansi-Agwu told reporters on the eve of the team’s departure for Kigali.

“We have regrouped for another stage of the competition and Rayon is next for us. The boys are motivated and we are proud of the technical crew and backroom staff’s work ethics.

“The players have been good ambassadors of Abia State and we are proud of their commitment. We are focused and optimistic we’ll conquer Rayon on Sunday.”

The game will kick-off at 3pm Rwanda time (2pm Nigeria time) on Sunday, September 16.

  • But why did Enyimba suspend Ufom Udoh, their captain? I hope they have resolved their differences. That guy is their talisman and practically qualified them for this stage of the CAF Cup. In their last match against CARA Brazaville, he was just everywhere on the field and hit the initial shot that rebounded and was bundled in by Wasiu.

Certainly, Udoh is about the  most talented and experienced NPFL player I’ve watched and it was no surprise Rohr invited him for the last friendly against Liberia. I hope his absence does not tell too much tomorrow though when Rayon Sports of Rwanda hosts Enyimba.

  • It’s messy. his contract was until the end of the season, the season ended prematurely so he said his contract has ended. A logical assumption to make. Now the club are saying they suspended him a week ago, but he says he did not receive notice of his suspension. Nobody was informed, indeed if the club suspended him, they should have made it public, not this “he said, she said”.

What is obvious is that Mfon was never going to play in this match (whether suspended or out of contract).

A simple matter for the court of arbitration of sport. Could be they decided to suspend him when it became clear that he was not going to sign an extension of contract, however, that is my speculation
