CAFCC: Eguma Admits Tough Win Over FUS; Moroccan Coach Hails Brilliant Keeper Rotimi

Rivers United coach, Stanley Eguma, has admitted that his team laboured for their 1-0 win against Morocco's FUS Rabat in Wednesday's Group A matchday 2 game of the CAF Confederation Cup in Port Harcourt, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

After being frustrated in most part of the game by the Moroccans, Emeka Atuloma eventually scored the only goal in the 71st minute to give Rivers United their first win in the group.

The win means Rivers are now third in the Group A log, on three points and are behind FUS Rabat and Club Africain of Tunisia who are first and second respectively, while Uganda's KCCA are bottom.

Commenting on the outcome of the game, Eguma stated that his players' too much respect to FUS almost cost them the game but expressed happiness that they secured the win.

"The victory was hard earned," Eguma told cafonline.com.

"I commend the players for their performance even as the game became tougher and tougher.

"My players respected FUS Rabat too much and that affected our game.

"I expected them to put the ball on the ground based on the height of our opponents, but I think they were carried away and that put much pressure on us.

"The Moroccans are experienced and have been in this business longer, though much goals were expected the most important thing here is that we recorded three points at home, and that is what matters to me."

On his part, FUS coach Hoalid Regragui singled out Rivers United goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi for his heroics in the game.

He told cafonline: "I am disappointed with the result. Also, I congratulate Rivers United for their victory especially the goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi for making all the saves, otherwise we would have scored a goal."

Regragui also lamented the weather condition which he claimed was a problem for his players.

"The climate also affected us; it was cold and hot which was not good for us.

"The game was open for both teams. We are going to concentrate on our home match and make sure to pick every necessary points."

Rivers United's next game is away to KCCA on Saturday, June 3.
