By James Agberebi: Enyimba gave their qualification into the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup a huge boost following their 2-0 away win against Benin Republic’s Energie FC in their first-leg clash on Wednesday at the Stade de l’Amite in Cotonou.

Enyimba took the lead in the fourth minute following an own goal by Lawal Lanignan whose back header wrongfooted Energie FC keeper Wilson Damilola and bounced over the line.

In the ninth minute, Enyimba went 2-0 up through Austin Oladapo who fired into the bottom corner following a pass from Stanley Dimgba.

Enyimba almost extended their lead in the 30th minute but Chinonso Okonkwo’s 25 yards shot went just wide.

In the 34th minute, Enyimba had another chance to get on the score sheet again but Dimgba’s shot was parried before Okonkwo’s follow-up was deflected over the bar.

Four minutes into the second half, Dimgba was denied by Energie keeper who saved his low shot with a strong one hand save.

Energie responded with an attack of their own on 52 minutes unfortunately Aime Santou’s curler from distance came off the cross bar.

A minute later Enyimba keeper Fatau Dauda was called to action as he denied Paul Odjouhassi by tipping over his long range strike.

Odjouhassi had a go again on 65 minutes but once again his effort was stopped by Dauda.

With 10 minutes remaining Enyimba were awarded a penalty but Stephen Chukwude’s spot kick was saved.
