CAFCL: Babatunde Gives Assist For Wydad Away Draw; Okpotu Subbed On In DHJ Draw Vs Serif As Ajayi Fires Blanks In Ahly Win

Super Eagles midfielder Michael Babatunde provided an assist on his debut for Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club who bagged a 1-1 away draw against Guinean club, Horoya in their CAF Champions League Group C matchday-3 game on Tuesday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The 2014 World Cup star who joined Wydad Athletic on a three year deal this summer was denied twice by Horoya goalkeeper Khadim N’Diaye who was in action for Senegal during the 2018 FIFA World

Cup in Russia.

Babatunde was first denied in the eighth minute when his header was parried away by N’Diaye and his close range shot stopped by the 33 year old shotstopper 14 minutes later.

In the 26th minute, Babatunde laid a perfect pass for Ismail El Haddad to score the opener for Wydad Athletic Club, but Ocansey Mandela drew level for Horoya four minutes later.

Former Rivers United attacking midfielder, Bolaji Sakin, came on for Daouda Camara in the 59th minute of the encounter.

Wydad Athletic Club now top Group C  with five points from three games with a superior goal difference to their hosts, Horoya who also have five points. In the other group game, Togolese side, Togo-Port defeated South African side, Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 to third place in the group.

Mamelodi Sundown now occupy fourth place after three games.

In Algeria, Anthony Okpotu made his debut for Difaa Hassani El Jadida (DHJ) who played out a 1-1 draw away at ES Setif.

The Nigeria B team striker came on as a second half substitute for Adnane El Quardy in the 71st minute.

Mohammed Ali Bemammer gave the visitors the lead in the fourth minute, but Habib Bouguelmouna restored parity for ES Setif in the 21st minute. Houssam Ghacha sealed victory for ES Setif in the 89th minute of the encounter.

In Cairo, Junior Ajayi played all 90 minutes for Al Ahly who defeated Township Rollers of Botswana 3-0 in a Group A clash at the El Borg stadium. Walid Azaro, Ali Maaloul and Islam Moharb were on target to give Al Ahly their first win in this season’s competition.

Al Ahly will travel to face Township Rollers in the return leg at the Botswana National Stadium on June 27.
