Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum says his side must remain “calm, confident and concentrated” as they aim to win the Premier League title. The Reds have made a perfect start to the season, winning all six of their Premier League games to move to the top of the table, while they also beat Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Wijnaldum has played a key part in their rise, with Jurgen Klopp remoulding him as a dynamic holding midfielder.
Liverpool’s last top flight title came in 1990 but there is a renewed optimism that this could be the year they finally break their Premier League duck.
Despite their fine start, the 27-year-old is taking nothing for granted, arguing that the consistency Manchester City demonstrated last term shows his side just how focussed they need to be.
“I just want to stay calm, confident and concentrated. The Premier League is a really difficult competition and you don’t win games that easy,” he told the club’s official website.
“It doesn’t matter who you play against, it will always be tough if you are not concentrated. If you don’t give 100 per cent you can lose every game so I am prepared for what can come or what can happen.
“If you speak about Manchester City… they had a phenomenal season last season and only lost two games and had four draws in the Premier League. They showed how few points you can drop to compete with them so it is going to be really difficult, especially if they have a season like that again.
“You can barely drop any points if they don’t again and that is difficult in the Premier League.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
