Cameroon has insisted it can successfully host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations amid concerns about the country’s shoddy preparations.
The Central African countrt, who won the last edition of Africa’s top football competion in Gabon this year, has been plagued by economic problems lately and other countries are on standby to take uo the 2019 hosting rights.
“Despite security concerns, social and economic crises, the government and President Paul Biya are totally engaged to do everything for the Nations Cup to go ahead,” the BBC quoted Cameroon’s sports minister Ismael Bidoung as saying on Wednesday.
Bidoung assured that five cities, Limbe, Bafoussam, Douala, Garoua and the capital Yaounde will be ready to host Africa’s elite.
“Of the 32 stadia required for the 2019 Nations Cup, the 11 that served for the 2016 Women Africa Cup of Nations are ready and functional,” Bidoung added.
“For the 21 other stadia, 14 are under rehabilitation and 7 are still to be constructed.”
