Nigeria’s Super Falcons’ dream of winning the gold medal in the women’s football event of the 11th All Africa Games have been dashed.
They lost 2-1 to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon on Tuesday evening in the semi-finals.
Therese Abena opened scoring for Cameroun after 10 minutes before Madeleine Ngo Mani added a second to take the Lionesses leading 2-0 at half-time.
Nigeria fought back in the second half and reduced the deficit through Onome Ebi in the 48th minute.
The Falcons started the tournament on a bright note, defeating hosts Congo 5-1, then thrashed Tanzania 3-0 but lost 2-1 to Cote d’ Ivoire in their last group game.
