Juventus midfielder Emre Can has jumped to the defence of team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo after he was sent off on Wednesday night. The Portuguese superstar was given a straight red card for an off the ball incident where he appeared to pull the hair of Valencia defender Jeison Murillo in the Champions League group opener.
Ronaldo faces a hearing next week where he will find out whether his ban will be extended from one – which could mean he misses the trip to former club Manchester United.
Afterwards, Can sprung to his defence and says it did not merit a red card.
“Is that supposed to be a red card? I learned that the reason for it is being attributed to the hair pull but we are not women. We play football,” he told DAZN.
“If you are going to give a red card for that then you will have to do it for practically every foul. That is 100 per cent not a red card.”
