Liverpool bounced back from their recent back-to-back defeats with a convincing 3-0 win against Huddersfield Town in the Premier League at John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday night.
Two first half goals from Emre Can and Roberto Firmino and a secomd half penalty by Mohamed Salah, was enough to secure the impressive win.
The win means Liverpool, who had lost to Swansea and West Brom in quick succession, occupy fourth spot on 50 points in the league table.
Record signing Virgil van Dyke was surprisingly left on the bench by Jurgen Klopp for 90 minutes.
Laurent Depoitre had the game’s first big chance in the 16th minute off Chris Loewe’s cutback but Loris Karius was equal to it as he made a superb save.
Can gave Liverpool the lead in the 26th minute after firing into the bottom corner from 25 yards with the aid of a deflection from Philip Billing.
In the 37th minute, Liverpool almost doubled their lead but Terence Kongolo cleared away Andrew Robertson’s cutback.
Huddersfield won a free-kick in a decent position following a foul by Sadio Mane only for Loewe to watch his effort go inches wide.
Steve Mounie thought he had drawn Huddersfield level in the 41st minute but his goal was flagged off for offside for his involvement in the move.
On the stroke of halftime, Firmino made it 2-0 to Liverpool after squeezing the ball past Jonas Loessl at the near post.
Nine minutes into the second half, Mane went close with a header from Can’s cross which was stopped by Loessl.
Loessl was called to action again in the 58th minute as he tipped a swerving shot by James Milner over the bar for a corner.
Liverpool’s persistence for another goal eventually paid off as Salah converted a 78th minute penalty after Can was fouled inside the box.
Huddersfield went close to grabbing a consolation goal through Thomas Ince late in the game but was denied twice.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
