South African Absa Premiership club Cape Town City have explained why they parted ways with their Nigerian striker Obinna Nsofor three months after he joined the club.
Nsofor joined Cape Town City FC from German second division club MSV Duisburg and scored once in 13 appearances in all competitions for the team.
Cape Town City FC coach, former South Africa striker Benni McCarthy, told South African daily Times on Monday that the former Nigerian winger did not convince the club enough with his performance during his stay.
Nsofor’s only goal for Cape Town City FC was in the derby against Ajax.
“Chairman John Comitis agreed with Victor from the beginning that we would do a review after six months and he didn’t feel that it was working for us‚” McCarthy, who played for West Ham like Nsofor, said on Monday.
“There are no hard feelings between us. He (Victor) understands.
“I felt he was getting fitter‚ better and stronger but I don’t think the chairman was convinced.”
Cape Town City chairman John Comitis however explained that ex-Super Eagles striker Nsofor left the club owing to family issues.
“We parted ways with Obinna,” Comitis told KickOff.com. “Obinna had a six-month contract plus option to continue and he couldn’t get his family here because of paperwork, and we decided that maybe it’s best to part ways.
“We had a one season to it but it was to be reviewed after six months and he didn’t settle… his wife couldn’t get the visa, and child to come here.” Comitis said.
Nsofor was a member of the Nigerian U-23s squad to the Beijing 2008 Olympics where they won silver and featured at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
He also featured for Italian side Inter Milan‚ Chievo Verona‚ Lokomotiv Moscow‚ Malaga and West Ham before joining Cape Town City FC.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
