Joe Willock converted his spot kick which he managed to squeeze through Adrian in sudden death of the shootout.

Arsenal have now reached the Carabao Cup quarter-final in four of the last five seasons; and this was their first penalty shootout victory in the competition since the 2013-14 third round at West Brom.

At Villa Park, John Mikel Obi saw action for 90 minutes as Stoke City edged Aston Villa 1-0.

Sam Vokes’ 26th minute effort was enough to send the Trotters into the last eight.

And in another Carabao Cup tie, Ola Aina and Ademola Lookman made their debuts for Fulham who lost 3-0 at Brentford.

Aina was replaced in the 69th minute while Lookman was introduced one minute into the second half.
