Carabao Cup: Success Scores For Watford; Moses, Iwobi Star As Chelsea, Arsenal Win

By Johnny Edward:
Nigerian forward Isaac Success scored his second Carabao Cup goal of the season for Watford in Wednesday’s 4-2 loss on penalties to Tottenham after regulation time had ended 2-2, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The Nigeria international, making his second start in the Carabao Cup, showed great strength to fend off Serge Aurier at arms’ length before firing his shot past Paulo Gazzaniga.

Delli Alli restored parity from the spot nine minutes from time. The England international bagged his brace five minutes later just when the Hornets were down to 10 men after losing Christian Kabasele to a red card.

Etienne Capoue’s goal drew Watford level again with two minutes to the end of the game.

In the penalty shootout, Dele Alli scored the winning spot-kick to send Tottenham through at Watford’s expense after Etienne Capoue and Domingos Quina missed for the Hornets.

At Anfield, Victor Moses made his third appearance for Chelsea who came from a goal down to beat Liverpool 2-1 in another Carabao Cup game played on Wednesday at Anfield.

Daniel Sturridge gave Liverpool the lead a minute before the hour mark but a header from Emerson Palmeri and a brilliant strike from Eden Hazard sent Maurizio Sarri’s side to the next round of the competition.

Former Nigeria international, Moses who had missed the Blues’ last five games prompting an impending exit from the club in January was booked for dissent in additional time of the win.

At the Emirates Stadium, Alex Iwobi played the entire duration of Arsenal’s 2-1 home win over Brentford.

A brace from Danny Welbeck and a late strike from Alexandre Lacazette gave the Gunners a win despite a free-kick from Alan Judge over the wall which was a consolation.

At the Olympic Stadium in London, West Ham defeated Macclesfield 8-0. A brace from Robert Snodgrass, Grady Diangana and strikes from Michail Antonio, Lucas Perez, Ryan Fredericks Angelo Ogbonna sealed an emphatic will for the Hammers.

At the City Ground, Oghenekaro Etebo was missing in action for Stoke City who lost 3-2 away to Nottingham Forest.

  • _ Gone but not forgotten _

Victor Moses had a fantastic game against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

The ex-Nigeria international was too hot to handle and too cold to hold for Liverpool’s left-back with his purposeful runs and deadly deliveries into dangerous areas.

It was really nice to see Moses in Chelsea’s starting line-up and one can only hope that his season will finally kick off from here.

Although he’s gone from international football, Moses’ contributions to Super Eagles will not be forgotten.

I fully respect and I quickly came to terms with his decision to quit and will always wish him well in his club career.

On another note, nice to see Isaac Success making an impact for his club albeit in a painful defeat to Spurs.

If the U-17 world cup winner continues this way, a return to the Super Eagles may not be too far-fetched to imagine for the gifted striker.

Apparently a return to the super eagles for Success Isaac is now.
His performance against spurs was impressive. His form of late has been good.
In other words I do not see a reason why he shouldn’t be on the list for the Libyan game.Success should take the place of Simeone Nwankwo.
The seven attackers I am expecting to be on the list on Monday are Success Isaac, Kelechi Iheanacho,Ahmed Musa,Simon Moses,Samuel Kalu, Odion Ighalo,Ademola Lukman

      • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

Greenturf. How did you not add Alex Iwobi to the list of attackers? I will prefer Simy Nwankwo to Odion Ighalo and for now Ademola Lukman paperwork may not be ready on time for the Libya game.

        • Greenturf 3 years ago

Sorry bruh forgot to name Alex who is a mainstay in the team I think we are so spoilt for choice in attack that a couple of names could skip your mind.
Aphilly, you know Ighalo would always be on Rohr’s list.Despite his low scoring form in the team he is regarded as a senior player and an integral part of the set up so you should to see his name first on Rohr’s list. You mentioned Simeon honestly I doubt he would continue to get future invitations.Playing as a substitute for a serie b team isn’t going to do his chances any good with Wolsburg striker Ujah getting a likely invite after 3yrs in the international wilderness someone has to be omitted to pave way for others and the most vulnerable one to be removed is Simmy am afraid.

      • Niggatee 3 years ago

Where is henry onyekuru???…meanwhile moses simon is not yet in full form

  • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

My boys are firing on all cylinders. The trio of Kelechi Iheanacho, Nassarra Succes and Alex Iwobi are the hope of the SuperEagles if they can continue to reach their potentials. It’s just hard at times to ignore Ahmed Musa, Simon Moses and Samuel Kalu at the moment. in terms of pure talents and eye for goals Kelechi, Success and Iwobi should be the three prong attack for the SuperEagles going forward. And yes I will be surprise not see Success Isaac on the list for the upcoming international window.

    • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

And of course Henry Onyekuru. The SuperEagles are incredibly loaded in the final third

    • Greenturf 3 years ago

You are spot on Aphilly the great man.
Iwobi on the flanks then a repeat of the 2013 under 17 class attack pairing of Success and Nacho would be eye catching. Both were so good in attack that they swept away Ghana 6nil and destroyed teams at will.I saw Success against Spurs and was marvelled with his movements on and off the ball.He was a nuisance to the Spurs defence. If he didn’t get an invite this time then you know something is not right with the scouting team.
On the other hand,Musa is now the vice captain of the team. His performances of late and his goal scoring form would guarantee a place for him in the starting line-up ahead of Success unless success could do something amazing and better when he finally gets his chance even at that Musa with his world cup performances and that spectacular goal against Seychelles I think he is Rohr’s good to go lad in the attack.
Anyway I’m so happy we have Success back and banging!
      God bless Nigeria!

    • Musa cannot be ignored at all. In fact he is the most productive striker for the national team currently. He has scored 3 goals in his last 3 games for the Super Eagles. It will definitely be Musa and 2 others upfront. I’ll prefer Kalu on the right, Musa on the left and Success through the middle in a fluid and interchangeable front three , with Iwobi as 10. Of course so much attacking choice. I will drop Ighalo if i were Rohr because we have so many options available than for us settle for an unproductive striker.

  • How I wish that Onyekuru is playing in the English Premier League. Moses is going down and I dont know who else saw his game yesterday

  • Chairmanfemi 3 years ago

@Greenturf, you are beginning to overhype Isaac Success. All substitute appearance in the premier league so far, two Carabao cup appearance with two goals. The only person he can displace In the Eagles attack is Simmy Nwankwo and Moses Simon is back fully fit. He came on as sub in Levante’s last game and got on the scoresheet immediately. Perharps, Moses Simon is a mainstay in the Eagles team so Success should wait for his time. He is not even better than Arnaut Danjuma playing Club Brugges’s every match and scoring.
Eagles Attack for me against Libya: Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Ihenacho, Samuel Kalu, Odion Ighalo, Henry Onyekuru, Ahmed Musa and Moses Simon. Anyway Coach GR is always full of surprises when it comes to his list so I’ll patiently await his list.

    • Jones 3 years ago

Thanks bro. So because success scored a goal he now deserves a spot in the national team? All these online coaches with their one naira player selections.

      • Greenturf 3 years ago

Hey @ Jones write with respect. Everyone cannot please you with their posts and we all have our opinions and you should learn to respect people’s opinion.
Success is a very talented footballer and hey my assessment on him is not based on his goal against Spurs and please read my posts clearly and stop the bandwagon that call people espressing their opinions Internet coaches which is rather stereotype and annoying.
By the way if I may ask what is the forum for?if we don’t share our diverse opinions which you call “Internet coaching”their won’t be a forum or medium or platform of discuss.
Be sensible and don’t go about disrespecting people.

    • Are you kidding me? Did you see Moses’ goal? Before hyping please watch his goal. In my opinion Success is way above Danjuma, I don’t know about Moses because they play different positions and Moses always brings somethong to SE. Remember Success was turning heads in La liga, scoring against the likes of Valencia and co. He is just unlucky with injuries. Whenever he plays for Watford you could see class. Do you think Watford would allow any player that they don’t regard to wear the #10 jersey?

I always advise ppl to watch these players first before making judgements.

      • Chairmanfemi 3 years ago

Nah…you are clearly wrong cuz you are the one that doesn’t watch this players. Success compared to Arnaut Danjuma…what a joke. Danjuma is just too class for him. Have you ever watched him play? Am sure your answer is NO. Kindly watch Club Brugge’s next Champions League match and see for yourself. He will definitely be in the line-up to show how good he is unlike Success who hardly makes the line up in an average team like Watford compared to Belgium champions Club Brugge

        • I have seen Danjuma play. I don’t think that he would be maneuvering his way in EPL the way he does in the Belgian leaugue. I may be wrong, but I’ll confirm by watching him this weekend for 90mins and in CL. You know Success issue has to do with his injuries. You don’t expect a coach to start benching Andre or Deeney, who have been performing beyond expectation this season.

  • In my opinion, I think this should be our 23 players.
    Goalies: Uzoho, Ezenwa, Theophilus
    Defenders: Ola Aina, Balogun, Ekong,
    Idowu, Omeruo, Collins, Semi.
    Midfielders: Mikel, Ndidi, Etebo, Iwobi,
    Ogu, Nwakali Kelechi.
    Strikers: Musa, Kalu, Onyekuru, Moses
    Simon, Iheanacho, Success,
Note: Iwobi in my lineup will be a
midfielders, cause I will play him
    as no 10.

    • Coach Mikel,
Nice line up.You left out Simy Nwankwo from your 23 man squad. Anyway no everyone can make a squad. Barring any injury, I think Ebuehi would have been included for you. Did you leave out Enyimba left back, Ikuouonu, not sure of the spelling. Fantastic left back, easily the man of the match for Eyinmaba in their last continental game.
Should be in Eagles team given his creativity and quality. This is the best time to integrate him into the national team, with shortage of quality left back in the nat team.
The young man reminds of Celestine Babayaro.

      • _ One to look out for _

Fidelenny my brother, I hope I am not mistaken but I think you mean Ikouwem Udoh.

The left back’s solid performance and goal for Enyimba in Sunday’s 5-1 CAF Confederation Cup annihilation of Rayon Sports did not go unnoticed. I also think that the young man was named the 2017 Nigeria Young Player of the Year.

They say he is 18 years old however he plays with such maturity and composure that he can easily pass for a 21 year old,

If he is the one you are talking about, then I will not raise an eyebrow if Gernot Rohr hands him a call-up. If nothing, it will help boost his confidence and help him attract interest from clubs outside Nigeria.

He captained the Flying Eagles of Nigeria as they secured qualification to the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

I know it is inconceivable to see Udoh picked ahead of the likes of Idowu, Jamilu or Ola Aina but the fact that he is a natural left back coupled with his age (plus tournament experience at CHAN) may well work in his favour in matches to come.

        • Deo,you’re quite about the name, Ikouwem Udoh.A fantastic young left bad, a true and true left back who holds alt of promise. I think the young man has done enough to get a look in from Genot Rohr, five hos sterling performance for club and country in the last year.
          Finalist with CHAN last year,
Captain of under 20 team, Was involved in the exhibition game against Athletico Madrid and a member of Enyimba team.

I think he should be rewarded with Eagles call up.

What’s this comparison between Danjuma and Success?
How sure are we that Danjuma will featured for Nigeria. What’s pedigree as youth team player? Isaacs Success is under-17 would champion with Awoniyi and IHeanacho.
He had decent stint with Grenada before joining Watford. Though has a moribund career wit Watford in his first two seasons, now he seems to get his groof back with goals on Caracao cup.

      • You are right sir, I left Ebuehi because of injury for now. Everyone knows he is our best right back.

  • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

Chairmanfemi. Success is way better than Danjuma. Until Danjuma can prove himself in a tough league like the Premier league that’s when I can rate him. If Success is playing in the Belgian league I’m sure he will paint that league red with goals. Did you watch him in Laliga while at Granada? It’s just because he wasn’t in good physical condition last season and a few off the field issue, but he’s getting back to his best now.

Did someone say Watford is an average club? Mind you they’re fourth in the EPL at the moment even though it’s still early. I’m absolutely certain that if he stays fit this might be the year he will announce himself to the global audience. We need him now in the SuperEagles.

    • Chairmanfemi 3 years ago

We’ve all known you to be Ihenacho and Isaac Success’s lawyer in this forum so starting argument with you is just like am arguing with a LAWYER…abeg o, who I be? Latest news now is NIGERIA LOSES Arnaut Danjuma to Netherlands as he earns international call-up from Ronald Koeman. He is not good! He is not good! We don see am now o. Even when most people on this forum haven’t watched him play, they still join the people saying he’s not good. Netherlands has produced more good players for Nigeria than England..Yes! Take a good look at Troost Ekong and Tyrone Ebuehi and we were this close to getting Danjuma too only to loose him to Netherlands through ignorance. If he gets the chance to play against Germany in the UEFA Nations League, we’ll just have to bid him goodbye
