Cardiff reportedly failed in their attempts to sign out of favour Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood during the summer.
The Bluebirds were in the market for a new goalkeeper to provide competition for first-choice stopper Neil Etheridge and they ultimately brought in Alex Smithies from Queens Park Rangers.

However, prior to signing Smithies, it is believed Cardiff were keen to bring in Republic of Ireland international Westwood, with reports in the Sheffield Star claiming Neil Warnock’s side were willing to pay £3million to sign the 34-year-old.
Wednesday ultimately turned that offer down as they wanted closer to the £6million mark for the former Sunderland man, which prompted Cardiff to turn their attention elsewhere.
The Owls may now be regretting that decision, as Westwood is one of the highest earners at Hillsborough, but has not featured in a matchday squad all season.
Westwood is out of contract this summer and could well leave the club in January with Leeds reportedly showing an interest, with Cardiff not expected to re-enter the race.
