Catalans Receive Edwards Boost

Catalans Dragons have been boosted ahead of Saturday’s Challenge Cup final as lock Kenny Edwards has been cleared to play. The former Parramatta Eels player’s participation at Wembley had been in some doubt after he was investigated by the Rugby Football League for throwing the ball into the crowd during the Dragons’ 35-16 semi-final victory over St Helens in Bolton earlier this month.

The incident was made worse as a child was reportedly struck by the ball, but it has now been confirmed that Edwards has escaped a ban and he will be available for the Saturday’s cup final, although he has been fined and warned about his future conduct by the RFL.

Catalans will certainly be relieved to have Edwards available, particularly as they will already be without Australian forward Greg Bird through suspension.
Edwards only joined the Dragons in May, but he has featured in the last two rounds of the Challenge Cup, while he has only missed one of the French club’s last 10 Super League games.
