Edinson Cavani has become Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time top scorer after netting his 157th goal for the club in Saturday’s 4-0 Ligue 1 win over Montpellier.
The Uruguayan overtakes Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the club’s leading marksman. The Swede scored 156 goals in 180 games in four seasons for the club from 2012 to 2016.
Cavani set a new record when he scored in the 12th minute with a simple tap-in from a from Adrien Rabiot’s cut-back.
His 157th goal came after 229 league games. The goal was also Cavani’s 21st in Ligue 1 this season.
Neymar scored the second goal for PSG from the spot in the 40th minute to hand PSG a two-goal lead into the break.
Argentina star Angel Di Maria made it 3-0 in the 70th minute before Neymar completed his double in the 82nd minute.
The goal was Neymar’s 17th goal of the season in 16 league games since joining from Barcelona for a world record €222m transfer fee after he was set up by Cavani.
The win moved PSG 11 points clear of Lyon at the top.
