Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla has re-joined Villarreal for a third spell after leaving Arsenal, as he continues to return to fitness.
Cazorla’s Villarreal return was confirmed on the LaLiga club’s verified Twitter handle on Tuesday.
“Today we have a very special thing to tell you because it is time to see someone very loved by the groguets… welcome back Santi Cazorla,” Villarreal tweeted.
Cazorla has been out of action since October 2016 after suffering a nightmare Achilles injury while at Arsenal, before undergoing a total of eight operations on his Achilles and a long-standing ankle problem.
The diminutive playmaker started his professional career at Villarreal in 2003, before returning to the club in 2007 for his second stint.
Arsenal signed him from Malaga for £10million in 2012 before playing 180 games – as he picked up two FA Cup winner’s medals.
He was released by Arsenal at the end of the season, and will become a Villarreal player for the third time.
