Chad coach Emmanuel Tregoat has admitted that his side deserved to lose Saturday’s AFCON qualifier against Nigeria as they did not play well and are yet to reach their hosts’ level.
Second half goals by Gbolahan Salami and Odion Ighalo gave Nigeria a 2-0 win as Stephen Keshi began his new reign as coach of the team.
“We were not impressive because we are a small team with big heart. We can grow up by playing such big names of African football such as Nigeria and Egypt,” Tregoat told Chadian media.
He also hopes that his team can build up on their showing in Nigeria in subsequent matches.
“Nigeria is a big country with players playing in big clubs in Europe while Chad is just a small county,” the Frenchman added.
“It was a very good match but you must remember Chad is a small nation in football and if you are current you’ll know Nigeria has professionals abroad.
“We did well in the first half. A mistake was committed that gave Nigeria the first goal and after that the players were downcast and that led to the second goal but overall I think we did well.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
