Kalu Orji is in line to partner Austin Obaroakpo in the centre of defence in Nigeria’s final African Nations Championship Group C match against Guinea on Tuesday, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
The Rangers defender who can also play at right-back started the Eagles’ first two games in the competition from the bench.
He replaced Jamiu Alimi in the early part of the game against Niger and took the place of Stephen Eze in the second game against Tunisia.
His impressive showing in the two games according to a top official of the side has now convinced coach Sunday Oliseh to hand him a starting berth against the Guineans.
“Orji proved his quality in our first two games against Niger and Tunisia and the coaches are convinced he is good enough to partner Obaroakpo in central defence,” the official informed Completesportsnigeria.com.
“He will definitely start against Guinea and we are confident he will do a good job in the defence.”
Nigeria top Group C with four points and need only a draw to book their passage to the next round of the competition.
