Chinese Super League club Changchun Yatai’s fans have vowed to cheer Nigeria to victory at the forthcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
The club’s captain Odion Ighalo told Sports.sina.com.cn that Yatai fans will be rooting for him and his Super Eagles colleagues when the World Cup gets underway in June as Nigeria their sixth appearance.
The former Watford striker has been in blistering form for Yatai this season, scoring seven goals in 10 matches for the Reds, and this outstanding performance ensures Ighalo has won over a large number of Chinese fans for the Super Eagles.
“My teammates and Yatai fans have said to me that they will be Nigerian fans during the World Cup and that they will support and encourage me. I’m very grateful to China for this support coming from the fans towards the Nigerian team,” Ighalo told Sports.sina.com.cn.
On Thursday, Italian Serie A side, Roma came out to back Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The club initially posted news of the Super Eagles squad on Twitter and one of Nigeria president Muhammadu Buhari’s personal assistants thanked AS Roma.
In response the Italian club posted: “Good luck to the squad at the @FIFAWorldCup in Russia.
“Italy won’t be there, so #ASRoma will be supporting our own players and the #SuperEagles – #ForzaSuperEagles.”
