Australia have emerged as the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria opponents in the Round of 16 of the ongoing 16th FIFA U17 World Cup, Chile 2015, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Golden Eaglets came out tops of Group A after winning two and losing a game to amass six points, but the Emmanuel Amuneke’s team had to wait till Sunday when more group matches of the tournament were decided, to know their Round of 16 opponent.
Australia who finished third in Group C with four points, behind topmost team Mexico (7 points) and Germany (6 points), qualified as one of the four best third-placed teams across the six groups of the tournament. The four best third-placed teams join the 12 who emerged from first and second positions, for the Round of 16 fixtures.
Golden Eaglets will confront Australia from 12 midnight, precisely Thursday morning October 29, inside the Estadio Sausalito Vina Del Mar.
The last time the Eaglets faced Australia was in the group stage of the 2003 U-17 World Cup in Finland, which the Eaglets won 2-1.
Other pairings that have been decided so far will see Brazil take on New Zealand, Mexico and host Chile will square off, South Korea will do battle against Belgium while Croatia will try Germany for size.
