By Johnny Edward: Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo failed to score in his second straight game in the Chinese Super League for Changchun Yatai in their 5-0 thumping at the hands of Guangzhou Evergrande on Saturday.
The defeat was Changchun Yatai’s first league defeat of the season after they played out a 1-1 draw against Shanghai Shenhua in their opening fixture last week.
Ighalo is one of the 28 players invited for Nigeria’s World Cup friendlies against Poland and Serbia later this month.
Gao gave hosts Guangzhou Evergrande the lead in the 34th minute before Ricardo Goulart double the lead on the hour mark.
He made it 3-0 for his side five minutes later before a late brace from Alan in the 79th and 84th minutes gave Guangzhou Evergrande their first win of the season.
Meanwhile, Shanghai Shenhua’s Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins missed his side’s Chinese Super League derby clash against Shanghai SIPG at the Hongkou Stadium.
It was the second straight game that Martins will be missing.
Shanghai Shenhua lost the encounter 2-0 with goals from Hulk and Wengue Lue in each half securing a win for Shanghai SIPG.
