By James Agberebi: Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi was in action for Tianjin Teda who opened their first game in the new Chinese Super League season with a 1-1 home draw against Hebei CFFC on Saturday.
Mikel was in action for 90 minutes in Tianjin Teda’s curtain raiser. He was up against Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano who was making his debut after joining Hebei from Barcelona recently.
The pair are likely to face each other again at the 2018 World Cup where Nigeria and Argentina are in the same group.
Tianjin Teda shot into the lead thanks to Jiakang Hui in the 25th minute.Hebei CFFC had the chance to draw level on 69 minutes when they were awarded a penalty which former Paris Saint-Germain and Argentina forward Ezequiel Lavezzi missed.
But with four minutes remaining in the game, Hebei CFFC equalised thanks to Chengdong Zhang.
The draw means Tianjin Teda occupy the fifth position on one point in the league table.
