Chris Nwosu: F/Eagles Will Deliver At FIFA U20 W/Cup

–Saudi ’89 Hero Tasks Manu Garba’s Team

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Former Flying Eagles midfielder Christopher Nwosu is upbeat about the chances of the Nigerian U20 side winning the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will play in Group E of the U20 World Cup which holds between May 30 to June 20, 2015, pooled along with Brazil, Hungary and Korea DPR.

Nwosu tells that the ability of the team to deliver is never in doubt but wants the team coached by Manu Garba to show mental fortitude as they aim to go one step better than the runners-up finish in 1989 and 2005.

” We don’t need to worry about whether this team can deliver at the U20 World Cup by winning it this time. Manu Garba and his crew have done fantastic job on this team.

“They only have to know that wearing the Nigerian colours is a thing of pride and they have to enjoy playing for their country,” Nwosu, who was one of the stars of the 1989 U20 World Cup in Saudi Arabia where Nigeria, under coach Tunde Disu won silver, tells

On Tuesday, Flying Eagles tormentor at the 1989 U20 World Cup final, Portugal’s Luis Figo campaigned to become the next FIFA President at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

Portugal had defeated Nigeria 2-0 in that absorbing clash.

“There are other youngsters waiting to grab such opportunities. Luckily for this present group, many are called but few are chosen.

“The team must be discipline, dedicated and respectful to their opponents in New Zealand. All eyes are on them but we have to trust them and believe in them,” Nwosu, who previously represented Nigeria in the 1987 FIFA U17 World Cup in Canada concluded.

The Flying Eagles have submitted their 35-man preliminary World Cup squad to FIFA which comprised the stars of the 2015 African Youth Championship in Senegal and those missing from that feat like Kelechi Iheanacho, Musa Yahaya, Chidiebere Nwakali and Isaac Success amongst others.
