–Ex-international says NFF should do more for the league
Following the Super Eagles poor run in the recently concluded 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, Coach Christian Chukwu has advised that there is a need to start a rebuilding process that will be centered on the local league.
Chukwu who expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the players after playing a 2-2 draw with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the last group game said the result showed that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF still have a lot more to do to reposition the country’s football.
“I must tell you that I am not happy just like every other Nigerian that we are not going to play at the next African Cup of Nations, we all saw it coming but nothing was done towards it. Having said this, I think we should go back to the local league and start rebuilding and in the next few years, we will have a strong team,” says the Chukwu
“We should also see how we can develop our U-17, U-20 and U-23 players so that they can grow rather than seeing them ending their career at that level, we should try as much as possible to develop them and promote them so that the talents will not just end there.
He however called on the football house to go back to the root and designed a good programme for the grassroots.
