–Ex-int’ls urge Amuneke boys to take Guinea draw as wake-up call

Former Nigeria internationals, Christian Chukwu and Ben Iroha have commended the Golden Eaglets fighting spirit after the squad came from behind to hold Guinea to a 1-1 draw in Wednesday’s CAF U-17 Championship in Niamey, Niger Republic.

The result of the pulsating games leaves the Nigerians in the driving seat of the group A with four points.

Chukwu who alongside Sebastine Brodricks-Imasuen guided the Eaglets to win the cup in China in 1985, said it was important the team did not lose the game.

“No doubt it was a difficult game but I must commend the players for their fighting spirit till the end.

“It would have been better if they had won the game but thank God, they did not lose.

“Matches involving Nigeria and any West African team are always tough so they will have to work hard in the final group game”.

However, Ben Iroha who spoke to Complete Sports from his base in the United States of America reckons that the 1-1 draw is a wake- up call to the players.

“I’m happy that they did not lose, but it shows other teams are not sleeping too.

“So it’s important they learn from there and move forward because the coming game, I mean, the last game of the group will be even tougher”, Iroha said.
