Chukwu Urges Eagles To Prove Critics Wrong

Former national team handler, Christian Chukwu has urged the Super Eagles to excel at the World Cup in order to convince critics that they are up to the big occasion in the game.

Chukwu, a former captain and later coach of the senior national team stated that though many have tended to criticise coach Stephen Keshi’s final selection for the World Cup, it’s now up to the players to show Nigerians and indeed the world that they are qualified to be part of the squad.

“We’re now into the competition and I must say it’s up to the players to prove themselves”, starts Chukwu who led the team win the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations in Lagos.

“The players know the importance of the tournament, they know that good performance in Brazil will go a long way in enhancing their careers and of course prove that they were there purely on merit.

“This is Nigeria’s fifth World Cup finals appearance and it is important they realize they are lucky to be the chosen ones for it.

“They should be able to prove Keshi right for the confidence he has in them by
living up to expectation at the World Cup.”

Chukwu who also coached Harambee Stars of Kenya as well as SAFA FC of Lebanon further expressed confidence in the team saying that World Cup is the biggest stage in football and that it is the dream and pride of any player to be part of it.

“This is their moment and they should make the best out of it and of course not forgetting the joy they will bring to Nigerians with quality performance in Brazil”, he stressed.
