Former Enugu Rangers captain, Christian Chukwu, says he will be delighted to see the side win the league title once again after several years of disappointments, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Imama Amapakabo's men need just a point from their last game of the campaign against El-Kanemi Warriors to be crowned champions after they beat Ikorodu United 2-1 in,Abeokuta on Sunday.
Chukwu, a member of the Flying Antelopes golden generation that dominated the Nigerian league in the 70's but who couldn't win the hitherto elusive league crown as Rangers coach, told Completesportsnigeria.com at the MKO Abiola after the game on Sunday that he was happy for the current set of players who are on verge of making history by securing the title after 32- years.
"I'm happy with the performance of the club (Enugu Rangers) this season," the former Super Eagles coach informed Completesportsnigeria.com.
"The players have showed hunger and commitment by going within a game from. winning the title.
"It has been tough watching clubs like Enyimba and Kano Pillars dominate the league in recent years.
"As a former captain of the club, I have been looking forward to the day I will see this great club win the title once again and I feel elated that we are close to doing that.
"I know for sure our fans are looking forward to next weekend's game against El-Kanemi Warriors after which hopefully we shall be celebrating our first title in 32 years."
