Cipriani Scoops Premiership Prize

Cipriani Scoops Premiership Prize

Gloucester fly-half Danny Cipriani has named September’s Premiership player of the month just weeks after being omitted by England.

The 30-year-old has begun the Gallagher Premiership season in fine form after setting up tries in each of the Cherry and Whites first two games against Northampton Saints and Bath.

Gloucester currently lie fifth in the league after five games so far this season.

It is an impressively quick turnaround for Cipriani, who only two weeks ago was left out of Eddie Jones’ 36-man training squad ahead of November’s autumn internationals.

Jones said he would only be “judged on his rugby” after being fined by magistrates for an incident that took place in Jersey during a pre-season tour.

He pleaded guilty to common assault and resisting arrest and was also fined by his club and reprimanded by an RFU disciplinary panel for his conduct.

Jones said in the aftermath of that he would not allow the incident to cloud his judgement and says Cipriani still has improvements to make if he is to be in contention for future squads.

“At this stage Danny is not in the top two stand-offs,” Jones told BBC Sport.

“I think he has done some great things, as has been well reported, but there are areas of his game he needs to work on and he understands that.”
