Manchester City are showing interest in River Plate midfielder Exequiel Palacios who made his international debut on Friday. The 19-year-old set up Argentina’s third goal in a 3-0 friendly win over Guatemala in Los Angeles after winning the ball back in midfield and releasing Giovanni Simeone.
Palacios is understood to be one of about 20 South American talents City have their eye on right now, but his rate of progress is among the quickest – meaning he could be heading for a European club sooner than his peer group.
He made his senior club debut a month after his 17th birthday and was part of the Argentina squad that flopped at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup last year.
However, he was man of the match in both of River’s recent Copa Libertadores clashes with Racing Club, scoring in the second leg. Palacios is under contract with River until 2021.
