Manchester City players can reportedly earn £250,000-per-man if they get their hands on the Champions League trophy this season. Pep Guardiola’s squad kick off their European campaign on Wednesday night at home to Lyon, with the Citizens considered by bookmakers to be one of the firm favourites this term to land the big one for the first time in the club’s history.
And players including Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne are believed to have been promised huge incentives of up to £250,000 each to help City finally get their hands on club football’s biggest prize.
It is understood City players picked up around £150,000 each for landing the Premier League title last season, so it is clear how much it will mean to the club’s Abu Dhabi backers to now become kings of Europe.
The Manchester giants have a wage structure which means most of their star-studded squad are on lower basic salaries – which can then be topped up heavily based on landing trophies.
Guardiola has not won the Champions League trophy since leading Barcelona to victory at Wembley over Manchester United back in 2011, and one of his main City remits is to at least go one better than the passive semi-final defeat to Real Madrid two years ago.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
