Nigeria’s Milicent Agboegbulem on Monday qualified for the semi-final of the women’s boxing event of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, guaranteeing herself at least a bronze medal, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Fighting in the middleweight (76kg) category, Agboegbulem outclassed Elizabeth Andiego from Kenya with a 5-0 decision.
Agboegbulem overwhelmed Andiego in round one 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 10-8, 10-9.
In round two, she emerged tops with a score of 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9.
And in round three it was not different from the first two rounds as she took it 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 10-8, 10-8.
She will now face Caitlin Parker from Australia in the semi-final on Friday.
With her qualification in the semi-finals, Agboegbulem is guaranteed.
In the men’s light heavyweight category which also took place on Monday, Nigeria’s Lukmon Lawal lost to Uganda’s Regarn Simbwa.
Simbwa defeated Lawal, who represented Nigeria at the 2012 Olympics in London, with a 4-1 final decision.
