England’s League and Cup winners decide first trophy of season on 6 August at Wembley
Some think it’s a glorified pre-season friendly, others that it is the first silverware of the campaign. On 6 August, the Community Shield pits the winners of the FA Cup (Chelsea) against the winners of the Premier League ((Manchester City) at London’s Wembley Stadium.
This tie will have some intriguing side notes. Will Guardiola and City be able to pick up from where they left off last season? With relatively little preparation time, how will new boss Maurizio Sarri fare in his first match in charge at Chelsea?

Where can I win money in this tie?
While the game may not be at their west London home, Chelsea could be considered to have “home” advantage in London. Their last trip to Wembley was also a happy one as they defeated Manchester United to lift the FA Cup back in May.
However, Manchester City were as good as an unstoppable force last season and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to continue that dominance over the coming campaign. Just a brief look at their numbers from last season shows how strong they were, and how ahead of their rivals they ended up.
The Citizens won 32 of their 38 league games and lost just two. They broke the 100-point mark in the Premier League for the first time, scored well over 100 goals and conceded less than 30.
Given the way both sides performed last season it is not exactly a shock that it is Manchester City who come into this tie as the favourites to win the Community Shield. Guardiola’s side are at just 1.90 to wrap up the contest inside 90 minutes, while Chelsea are far further out at 3.80, according to Oddsshark.
A draw is priced at 3.60 which would then lead to a penalty shoot-out, another outcome of this contest you can bet on. You can back the game to be decided via spot kicks at a price of 3.50, while backing the match not to go to a shoot-out is at the shorter price of 1.28.
Alternatively, you can make a simpler bet based simply on who will lift the trophy, regardless of whether it will be after 90 minutes or penalties. And again it is Manchester City at the shorter price of 1.50, with Chelsea out at 2.50 to win the silverware.
One thing we saw from Sarri at Napoli however was bold, attacking formations, and in Guardiola Manchester City also have a manager bound to more attacking principles. With less pressure on this encounter we may well see the shackles off and the goals flying in.
Both teams to score in this game is priced relatively short, at just 1.66. However, you could potentially double your money by backing “No” to that particular outcome at 2.10.
Over 2.5 goals in the game also comes in short at 1.72, while under 2.5 goals in at 2.07. And while it is never easy trying to predict the exact score of a game, a 2-1 win for Chelsea here is priced at 13.00, offering more than a ten-fold return on any investment. For example, a US$5 dollar bet would reap a US$65 pay out.
As ever, the more specific you are with your bets, the higher the potential rewards will be. Looking at total number of goals in the match, under two is at 4.00, two or three sees that price drop down to 2.00, while over three goals is at 2.75.
However, you can go further should you wish to do so. Backing over 4.5 goals in the game is priced at 5.50, while over 5.5 goals sees that price double to 11.00.
And you can combine number of goals with the outcome. A Manchester City win and over 2.5 goals in the game gives you the chance to almost triple your initial investment, at a price of 2.87.
However, given this is the first game of the season you may wish to play it safe and go for the “Double Chance” option, allowing you to pick two possible outcomes rather than just one. Chelsea or a draw is priced at 1.90, while a Manchester City win or a draw is priced at 1.28. Alternatively, you can back either side to win inside 90 minutes at 1.29.
