Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup qualifying opponents and African champions Cameroon lost 2-0 to Chile in their opening game at the ongoing FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia on Sunday.
Late goals from Eduardo Vargas and Arturo Vidal gave Chile a bright start at the competition.
Chile began the encounter with an electric start and they were unlucky not to have taken the lead with their first real attack in the first minute.
Vargas’ first time shot beat Cameroon goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa at the near post and clipped his ankle for a corner.
The Copa America champions were denied another chance to break the deadlock in the fourth minute when Jose Fuenzalida’s goal-bound shot was parried away by Ondoa.
In the 23rd minute, Cameroon had the ball in the net. Ngadeu-Ngadjui leapt higher that the Chilean defence line to head in an in-swinging freekick from the left flank but the referee ruled the goal out due to a foul on Vidal in the build-up.
Vargas’ first half stoppage time goal was then chalked off by the video assistant referee for an offside.
At the restart, Cameroon stifled the Chileans and were in total control. The dominance saw Chile coach Juan Antonio Pizzi introduce Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez who went on to provide the assists for the two goals scored in the final ten minutes of the encounter.
Sanchez whipped in a perfect cross from the left flank for Vidal who leapt highest in the box to give Chile the lead in the 81st minute.
The goal was Vidal’s 23rd goal in 91 international appearances for Chile.
Vargas sealed the win in stoppage time with an easy tap-in after Sanchez failed to score despite rounding Ondoa.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
