Thievy Bifouma was relatively unknown when he stepped on the UJ Esuene’s stadium in Calabar when Nigeria hosted Congo Red Devils in the AFCON 2015 qualifiers, but thousands of Nigerian fans who defied the rain to cheer Super Eagles, watched with envy as this Almeria striker scored a brace and provided an assist.
Nigeria went 3-1 down as Super Eagles caved in to Bifouma’s excellent passes but fought back to end the match 3-2. Bifouma will again be at the centre of attention when Nigeria faces the Red Devils in Ponte Noire today.
The dashing striker sounded a note of warning to Nigeria when he found the net last weekend in Almeria’s 2-1 home loss to Barca in the La Liga.
It remains to be seen how Super Eagles rear guards intend to stop Bifouma and his teammates, who were not intimidated by the pedigree of Nigeria’ s armada of stars in the first leg.
