Conte Rues Morata’s Suspension For Everton Clash, Open To January Moves

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has expressed his regret following Alvaro Morata’s suspension ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League trip to in-form Everton on Saturday.

Morata who scored Chelsea’s winner in the 90th minute in their 2-1 Carabao Cup win against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, was yellow carded in added time, ruling him out of this weekend’s game against the Toffees.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Conte stated that Chelsea must come up with something different for the match against the Merseysiders.

“We must accept the decision of the referee to show Alvaro Morata a yellow card last night, which rules him out of Saturday’s game through suspension,” Conte said.

“Morata would have started against Everton so I must prepare a new plan for the game in training before the trip north.”

Conte stated that he is looking forward to a favourable result against an Everton side that has been in doing very well lately.

He said: “Everton are in good form having won four of their past five games. I hope for a positive result so I can enjoy Christmas!”

And on the possibility of bringing in new faces in the January transfer window, Conte said: “If there is the chance to improve the squad it would be good, but I am enjoying working with the players I have right now as they are showing great commitment and desire.

“I and the players’ task is to give the best satisfaction to our fans during the festive period.”
