Philippe Coutinho has had time to assess his Barcelona teammates snce making the switch from Liverpool last January and reckons that while superstar Lionel Messi keeps getting better everday, playmaker and club captain Andres Iniesta is a “genius”.
Iniesta, 33, continues to play a key role for the LaLiga leaders, featuring 25 times in all competitions this season and Coutinho says Spain international makes the players around him better.
“Andres is a genius, and anyone who plays with him he will make them better,” Coutinho told 8TV.
“I am enjoying my time together with him and also with Leo [Messi], for me they are idols.”
On Messi who’s scored 27 times in 34 games, he said: “It seems incredible, but every day Messi gets better, and as a team-mate I can only take advantage of my moments with him. I’ve learned a lot from everyone and I’ve tried to take advantage of everything they taught me.”
Coutinho has made just four appearances for Barca so far after leaving Liverpool in a reported €160million deal but the Brazil international says he’s unfazed by what position he is used in by coach Ernesto Valverde.
“I don’t care about the position, I’ll play where the coach tells me,” Coutinho said.
“It’s all different at Barcelona, and though I’ve played more times on the left, I’ll adapt wherever.”
