Brighton has handed a new one-year contract extension to young defender George Cox after his recovery from heart surgery.
The 20-year-old had to go under the knife for a life-threatening operation after an irregular heartbeat was picked up during routine screening by the club when he returned for pre-season training in July.

The news was a blow to Cox after he had worked hard to impress the last term by featuring in every game in the Under-23s’ promotion-winning season.
However, he is now back in the fold with the youngsters and Under-23s’ coach Simon Rusk insists that Cox fully warrants his new deal.
He said: “George thoroughly deserves his new contract. He’s delivered a consistent level of performance over the past few seasons and proved to be a valuable member of the team.
“After a difficult summer for George, he’s bounced back and picked up where he left off last season. He’s always developing and it’s great to have secure his services for another year.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
