Cresswell Glad To Have Carroll Back

Aaron Cresswell has hailed the qualities Andy Carroll can bring to the West Ham squad as he edges closer to fitness. The striker is yet to play this season after suffering an ankle injury in the summer but has been nursed back to health and played 45 minutes of Thursday’s 2-1 friendly win over Brentford.

Manuel Pellegrini has had to deal with a host of injury issues since his May appointment, with Manuel Lanzini, Winston Reid and Andriy Yarmolenko all long-term absentees.

However, Jack Wilshere is nearing fitness, as is Carroll and the pair could feature next Saturday against Manchester City.

Cresswell admitted it was good to see the nine-cap England striker in action against the Bees on Thursday and is backing him to have a significant impact once he returns to the Premier League fold. “It was great for Andy to get back out there,” said Cresswell.

“He’s had a frustrating start to the season after what happened in pre-season and it’s obviously never easy for anyone with injuries. “It was fantastic to see him back out there and hopefully now he can get more minutes and more games under his belt and really push on, as we all know what a handful Andy can be for anyone to defend against.”
