Croatia midfilder Milan Badelj has been ruled out of action for a month after sustaining a knee injury in the side’s 1-0 win against Mexico on Tuesday, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.
Badelj, 29, who plays for Italian club Fiorentina picked up the injury late in the first half of the friendly encounter in Dallas.
The Croats won the game courtesy of Ivan Rakitic’s 62nd minute penalty.
“Croatian player Milan Badelj injured his knee in a duel with Mexico in Dallas and has started the recovery process,” reads a statement on the Croatia Football Federation official website.
“At the end of the first half of the friendly match in Dallas, which Croatia won 1-0 against Mexico, Milan Badelj was injured and had to be replaced.
” Today’s review of magnetic resonance imaging has shown an exaggeration between the first and second degree of collateral medial ligament of the right knee and the fixture of the Vatron’s joints has already begun with the associated therapy.
“The planned recovery will last for three to four weeks, and the Croatian medical team’s medical service is in constant contact with the physicians of Fiorentina.”
The defensive midfielder has been capped 32 times by his country and has scored once.
Croatia are in the same World Cup group with Nigeria with both countries billed to clash on June 16 at the Kalinigrad Stadium.
