Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, bagged a brace but it was not enough as his club Changchun Yatai lost 3-2 away to Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super League on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The goals were Ighalo's seventh and eight goals in 16th league appearance for Changchun Yatai this season.
Gil put Shandong Luneng 1-0 up at the stroke of halftime before doubling their lead through Senegalese and former Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse in the 46th minute.
Ighalo got on the score sheet when he converted a 48th minute penalty to make it 2-1.
In the 57th minute, Diego Tardelli restored Shandong Luneng's two-goal lead to make it 3-1.
With nine minutes left, Ighalo scored his second goal, but Shandong Luneng held on to claim the three points.
Changchun Yatai are now in the ninth position in the 16-team league table.
In another Chinese Super League game played on Saturday, Nigerian striker, Anthony Ujah featured for Liaoning Hongyun who were thrashed 4-0 away by home side, Jiangsu Suning FC.
Roger Martinez (21st minute), Song Wang (61st minute), Xiaotian Yang (76th minute) and Indomitable Lions of Cameroon skipper, Benjamin Moukandjo (90th minute) were the scorers for Jiangsu Suning FC.
Liaoning Hongyun are currently in the 15th position on 13 points on the log.
Ujah has scored five goals in 15 league appearances for Liaoning Hongyun this season.
