CSKA President: Why We Rejected Leicester’s €22m Offer For Musa

By Johnny Edward:

CSKA Moscow president Yevgeny Giner has explained why he refused to sanction the move for Ahmed Musa to join English Premier League leaders Leicester City during the January transfer window.

Giner speaking also denied rumours that Leicester City offered €30m for the Nigerian skipper who has scored seven goals in 24 appearances for the current Russian league leaders.

“We talked to Musa,” Giner told sport-express.ru. “And he understood that he needed to finish the season with us because we stand a good chance of becoming champions,”

“Letting him move for me I think will be wrong. Football, however, also has its own economy.

“If we become champions and will qualify for the Champions League, it will earn us €15m. Leicester in fact offered €22m and not €30m.”

“So it turns out the difference is only €5m. Is that the worth for Musa? I do not think so.”.

He also praised the versatile Musa who could play in three positions in the attack.

“Musa is a strong forward who can cover three positions and I’m sure that in the summer there will be bigger clubs coming in for him,” Giner added.

Under Giner CSKA Moscow has won three Russian Championships (2003, 2005, 2006), six Russian Cups (2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011), four Russian Super Cups (2004, 2006, 2007, 2009) and the UEFA Cup (2005).

They have also reached the stage of the Champions League quarter-finals (2009/2010).
