Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry says the NBA champions “can’t just show up and expect to win” in the coming campaign. The Warriors claimed a third Championship title in four years last season by downing Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0 in the Finals Series.
However, Curry feels his team’s recent dominance makes them a target and he expects their rivals to step up in the season ahead.
“The best thing about the league is how competitive it is,” said Curry, as reported by the Daily Mail. “We can’t just show up and expect to win even coming into this season. Every year it is improving and it is different. That keeps us on our toes.
“Teams are gunning for us and changing their rosters to match up with us and they’re not shy about saying it.
“The same thing will happen this year no matter who we play – it’s a war and that makes standing on that podium with the trophy that much more special.”
Golden State have largely kept their squad together during the off-season but have brought in center DeMarcus Cousins from New Orleans Pelicans as a replacement for Zaza Pachulia, who has joined Detroit Pistons.
