Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he is unsure whether Kevin De Bruyne will be fit for Thursday’s crucial clash at home to Liverpool.
City go into the game seven points adrift of Liverpool, with Guardiola admitting that his side’s title defence will effectively be over if they fail to beat the league leaders.
The availability of De Bruyne could be a crucial determining factor in the outcome of the game, but, after the Belgian missed City’s 3-1 victory over Southampton on Sunday with a knock, Guardiola was unable to provide a detailed update on his fitness.
“I don’t know how Kevin De Bruyne is,” Guardiola told reporters.
“I know it’s not serious, but I don’t know if he can play on Thursday.”
De Bruyne was City’s star player as they cruised to the title last season but he has endured a considerably difficult time so far this season owing to injury.
The Belgian midfielder has been restricted to just six Premier League appearances this season after he suffered knee ligament damage earlier in the campaign.
Liverpool are unbeaten in the Premier League this season and go into the game against City off the back of an emphatic 5-1 victory against Arsenal.
City and Liverpool drew 0-0 when they met at Anfield in October, with Riyad Mahrez missing a late penalty for Guardiola’s side.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
