Deeney Set To Miss Cup Clash

Troy Deeney is set to sit out Watford’s Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham this week after revealing he has been playing with broken toes. Deeney told Sky Sports after the weekend’s 1-1 draw at Fulham in the Premier League that he has been battling on in recent weeks despite having broken three bones.

“I may have a broken bone or two but we’ll crack on,” he added. “It is what it is. I am a tough, ugly boy.”

Fears that he may have broken another toe during Saturday’s game at Craven Cottage were dis-spelled following a scan but Deeney is unlikely to be risked against Spurs on Wednesday, a game which will be held at MK Dons’ stadium as Tottenham’s new ground is still not ready to stage matches.

The sides will be meeting again just a few weeks after Watford beat Spurs 2-1 in a league game at Vicarage Road.

Having missed recent matches against Liverpool and Inter Milan with a hamstring injury, Dele Alli could play in the game which is taking place at a stadium he knows well – the current England star joined Spurs from the Dons in 2015.

Alli returned to action as a substitute in Tottenham’s 2-1 win at Brighton on Saturday.
