Defender Heads For City Exit

Manchester City defender Jason Denayer has finally left the club on a permanent basis after agreeing a four-year deal with Lyon. Denayer came through the academy ranks at City but did not make a first-team breakthrough and spent most of his time away on loan in order to get first-team action under his belt.

The 23-year-old had two loan spells with Turkish outfit Galatasaray and further stints at Celtic and Sunderland in recent years, and now gets the chance to put down some roots in France.

Lyon’s Head of Recruitment Florian Maurice provided a statement upon officially announcing Denayar and says the Ligue 1 side are delighted to have landed their man.

“Jason is a player we have been following for three seasons now,” he said on the club’s website. “He has all the characteristics sought by Bruno (Génésio, Lyon manager):

versatility because he is able to play all the positions of the defence, intelligence of play, placement, speed and power in the duels.”
