Delta State Eager To keep Hosting Super Eagles’ Matches

Tonobok Okowa, the Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, says the state will be delighted to continuously have the Super Eagles play their matches at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba, Completesports.com reports.

Okowa said on Thursday that the Super Eagles handlers seemed comfortable with the Delta State capital city’s hosting capabilities and facilities.

“The state government has not influenced it in any way, the choice of Asaba by the NFF may be out of the fact that the state has successfully hosted other international matches and that the facilities are good,” Okowa stated.

“The state government has not really done any form of pushing to continue to host the matches in Asaba but if the state has the option, it will grab it.

“We want to keep bringing them (the Eagles) back because we want to always put the stadium into use and our people love to have them here,” he said.

The Eagles ended their 2019 AFCON qualifiers on a winning note by defeating Seychelles 3-1 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba, Delta State on Friday.

And next up for Nigeria is an international friendly against Egypt at the same venue on Tuesday.

Please the nff should stop hosting international matches at the stephen keshi stadium asaba, that pitch is too small to host international matches, It looks like half of the camp nou pitch

  • Ako Amadi 5 years ago

The pitch is a disgrace. No international matches should be played there

  • Edoman of NewJersey,USA 5 years ago

Balogun in Lagos, Uniben in Benin City, and Abuja stadiums are ten-folds better this Asaba stadium. Nonsense really. Go back to Uyo or Nigeria will continue to loose all their Home Games.

Can you imagine this guy? Saying he is eager to host more matches? Sadly, Pinnick will grant his desire because Pinnick is also from Delta state. We are ready to sacrifice excellence on the altar of tribalism and selfishness. That is how base we have become in Nigeria. These guys are indeed sick.

Nonsense nothing good comes out of Nigeria. The pitch is a joke. Training pitch here in UK far far better than that. They are better go and resurrect Surulere. What has come to Nigeria. See pitch.

  • Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, thanks but no, we don’t want that stadium again. Pinnick wants to destroy his legacy with this political hosting, abi? If the U23 Eagles don’t qualify on that stadium on Monday, Pinnick will face the fury of Nigerians.

Pinnick should stop using our national teams’ home matches as ‘Thank You’ to Delta State. Separate football and politics. Speak with Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom on bringing back our matches to Uyo please.

That Uduaghan (the immediate past governor of Delta) is your in-law and Okowa was his SSG does not mean you should drag SE and U23 Eagles matches into your ‘arrangee’ levels. Gernot Rohr does not like the field and he has stated he prefers Uyo. Same with the players. Stop forcing Asaba on them!!!

Thank you but we don’t want that training pitch for our Eagles and any of our International matches. Complete Sport please do this favour for me by relaying all these messages/comments to NFF immediately as you can see that no one single comment here supported the Asaba Stadium.Thank you in advance for granting this my request

  • Nigeria and tribalism and mediocrity and bad politics and shamelessness and unaccountability and irresponsibility and lies like those you’ve just heard that there was no pressures in taking International matches to a substandard pitch. I rest my case.

  • Pinnick I respected you alot, you want to allow nepotism to destroy your good work I hate you now. remember we ment in Paris during Togo friendly pls return the team back to uyo and stay away from politics

  • i’m a deltan, amaju pinnick is posing to be a new “super villain” to nigeria super eagle and dream team6….i’m afraid egypt with homebasee that re familiar with such bumpy pitch will disgrace us….oga wake up na, such a dented pitch, tis too small for our offensive mostly when opponent drop deep to form block…our players definitately love to run have no breathing space to run, person of iwobi musa onyekuru..iwobi even turn to cripple man so he couldnt open defence. all we re saying take the matches back to uyo starting from egypt.
