Dennerby: Super Falcons Defended Well To Beat Strong Cameroon

By Adeboye Amosu:

Super Falcons head coach, Thomas Dennerby, is happy to see her side book a place in 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France following their semi-final win against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon at the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations, reports

The defending champions edged the contest 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 0-0 in regulation time to book a place in the final.

The Super Falcons are now among the only seven teams to have qualified for every FIFA Women’s World Cup since its inception. The others are USA, Brazil, Sweden, Norway, Japan and Germany.

“I said at the beginning that our target was to qualify to the World Cup, I am very happy we have achieved this goal. I feel very tired,” Dennerby said after the game.

“They (Cameroon) are a good team, but I wasn’t happy with how we started. We lost the ball too easily but we defended well and that’s probably why we won. But we need to improve our forward play in the future.”

The Super Falcons will now face either Mali or South Africa to determine who wins the title.

“I think we have a good chance against either of them (South Africa or Mali). Now is time to recover, the players were very tired at the end,” Dennerby added.

“We have defended well and restricted teams from scoring against us. Its a good foundation that we are hard to score against, but we need to improve our attacking play and the quality and pace of our passes.”

A courageous display from the girls. But I still feel the team hasn’t hit the top form yet. They are very lethargic and slow when making transition. Dennerby should fix this asap. Otherwise, we may lose out on the title.

A good team will load you goals just like France did to us in your first friendly whipping you by 8-0. Not even our black female coach has lost like this. Get updated and move away from your Sweden magical 3rd place football of today is different so go back to your drawing board and let us see free flowing football with goals and pace!

the coach should be sacked even if Nigeria wins the cup!! the match against Cameroon was very poor. the coach was clueless, standing like an image and he could not motivate the girls!!! he has not impacted any positive thing on the girls. they are playing badly under this so called foreign coach!! the girls played better under omagbemi!!!

  • Never seen a Nigerian Female team played like that….lacking all bites of a true champion! Had to stop watching them as they acted like shadow of themselves. Coach, you must do something drastic otherwise we become the whipping team of the tournament.

  • If I say anything now south africa wil use it to beat dem again. I won’t expose them now. Let dem just play as dey ve been doin . Because dey are are good at penalty as for d fin al.

Against Cameroon, the girls were completely confused, never seen super falcons look so little before any African team.
