Gerard Deulofeu claims he had some doubts about joining Watford in the summer, but he is “proud” he did as it was “the best option”. The 24-year-old sealed a permanent £11.5million deal at Vicarage Road in July having impressed in a loan spell from Barcelona during the second half of last season when he scored one goal in seven league appearances.
Deulofeu admitted that it was a big decision to leave a club with the stature of Barca, but he wanted a move back to England, having enjoyed a spell at Everton in the past, while he was also keen for regular first-team action which was not forthcoming at the Nou Camp.
And, following his return from injury in the win at Wolves last month, Deulofeu claims he is delighted to be a part of Javi Gracia’s squad. “I love the Premier League, I’ve been here on loan and feel comfortable. I feel really good with my team-mates. Now I am proud of signing here,” he told Sky Sports.
“When I signed I felt we could have a great season, it has started well so I am happy to be here. “I had some doubts in the summer, but it is normal because I had some other offers. I chose Watford because it is the best option.”
He added: “I want to play a regular season and play minutes, enjoying with my team. Sometimes you are in a big team and you didn’t even enjoy it like you can enjoy it here, that’s why I’m here.”
