Mohamed Diame says he is confident Newcastle United will kick-start their season after a disappointing opening. The Magpies were handed a tough start to their Premier League campaign – with clashes against Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal in their first five fixtures – and Rafael Benitez’s men came away from those contests with nothing to show.
Each of those matches ended in a 2-1 defeat and the only point Newcastle have amassed came at Cardiff City in a 0-0 draw – a game where Kenedy missed a stoppage-time penalty for the visitors.
Many are predicting a battle against relegation for the north-east outfit but former Senegal international Diame, who has been an ever-present this season, is adamant results will begin to improve.
“The season has already started, we can’t forget about the games we have had,” he said, as per Chronicle Live. “But we have to keep believing in what we are doing and trying to win games because that is why we are here. We need to work harder, score more and concede less – it’s simple.
“I am not worried; I have spoken with the manager about the situation because we are playing exactly like we were last year. We had these big games in the beginning and we knew they were coming.
“Now, these games are over we are going to go into these next games and try to get that first win.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
